    Administrative

    • Implemented Language Tracking Program

    • Worked with team to implement seven high school campus newcomer centers, distance learning labs, and sheltered instructional teams to improve graduation rate for ELL Learners
    • Led forty-two staff members in the development of a premier campus for second language learners
    • First Arlington ISD District administrator to earn Texas Technologies Competency Certification. 
    • Developed innovative master schedule to maximize credit opportunities for Newcomer ELL and refugee high school students.
    •  Co-authored and supervised MISD's 100% LEP Graduation Plan which in one year has increased graduation rates from 54% to 89%

     

    Curriculum and Material Development

    • Development of new curriculum units with a focus on inquiry learning for the new BC Curriculum
    • Wrote and implemented curriculum for El-Civics Adult Work Skills and Citizenship Grant.
    • Project manager for curriculum design and integration for grades Pre-K through 12 ESOL and Languages (Spanish, French, Japanese, Latin, Chinese, and German). 
    • ELL consultant for district-wide integration of iPad, Smartboard, iTouch and other technologies into curriculum
    • Textbook evaluator and material reviewer for district textbook adoption (ELL grades K-12)

    English as a Second Language/Special Populations

    •  Designed and implemented an English Proficiency identification, tracking, and monitoring system for international Bodwell High School students.
    • Established successful after school and family literacy programs for ESL students and their families.
    • While Principal, Newcomer Center received designation of model campus for recent immigrant students by the Texas Education Agency. 
    • Staff development trainer for over 300 teachers and administrators in ESL strategies, sheltered teaching methodologies, accommodations and interventions, and integration of technology into an ESL classroom.
    • Presenter at local, state, and national conferences and symposiums on topics of immigrant and refugee students, second language acquisition, Newcomer Centers,  dropout prevention, sheltered instructional strategies
       

    Grant Writing

    • Awarded over $8 million in state and federal grant funding during a five year period.
    • Consistently met 100% of target goals while serving as federal grant coordinator for El-Civics 
    • Developed curriculum, schedule, and activities for innovative programs such as Newcomer Family Literacy, After-School Extended Day, and EL Civics Adult Work-skills and Citizenship Program.

     

    Team Building and Leadership

    •   Implemented "Bridge Building" program to assist students with transition between elementary to junior high and junior high to high school thus improving pass rate.  
    • Served as ESL Department Chair at junior high and high school levels
    •  Headed Instructional Focus and High Expectations Campus Planning Committees and both campus and district levels
    • Received Certificate of Appreciation for work on Dropout Prevention Committee   
    • Implemented ELL academic teaming concept at Arlington ISD that allowed overall campus improvement on state assessments from a 72% pass rate to a 94% pass rate.
    • Active participation in instructional leadership committees for dropout prevention, teacher mentoring, summer youth camps, technology initiatives
